THE WALLED CITY OF LAHORE Authority
Lahore is a renowned city around the world, the second-largest city of Pakistan and the capital of
Punjab, and personally my favorite city. If you’re one of those backpackers who like to travel around
the world and visit historical places, then you’ve come to the right place. This article will make you want to visit the city as soon as you’re done reading it. Let’s not bore you with the history of the city and how it came to be, let’s just jump to the good stuff. The following list will assist you to make a fun plan to visit the city.
Walled City of Lahore:
Also known as Old City, the epicenter of historical places happens to be one of the top tourist attractions in the city. The city almost 4000 years old comprises of many Landmarks of Mughal, Sikh and British. In short, a perfect place for history geeks.
Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila):
The very large structure spread over almost 20 hectares have 21 historical monuments that include places like Naulakha Pavilion, Picture Wall, Sheesh Mahal, Summer Palace, etc. Shah Burj Gate also known as the elephant gate, and the Alamgiri gate of the fort is itself a great Monument. These places offer an essential piece of art and historical architecture.
Moti Masjid (Lahore Fort):
Located inside the Lahore Fort is a religious building of a very small structure made completely of white marble. This holy place represents the classic Mughal architecture.
Badshahi Mosque:
It was built in Mughal Era, this Mosque is a classical piece of Mughal architecture and second-largest mosque in Lahore. Alongside its gate, lies the most renowned poet of the subcontinent, Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The Entryway of the complex, Courtyard, Prayer Hall, and Minerats are some of the top tourist attractions. The mosque is crowded during the day so I prefer to go at night when there are few people. Be informed that it’s a holy place so there will be some restrictions.
Minar-e-Pakistan:
Also known as the tower of Pakistan, one of the most iconic sight that offers blends of Mughal and Modern architecture. A symbol of freedom for Muslims from British Rule.
Masjid Wazir Khan:
Personally, my favorite piece of architecture in the walled city of Lahore. The walls of Masjid are decorated with Persian Style. The design is carved into the walls giving it a very classical and unique look.
Shahi Hamam:
This was a modern bathhouse back in the day used by imperials of the time. The Architecture is very eye-catching and unique and it’s a walking distance from Masjid Wazir Khan, located at Delhi Gate. A must place to visit.
Food Street:
While traveling, everybody likes to have a place filled with delicious cuisines and Food Street is just what you need at the end of the day of visiting places in the walled city of Lahore. Haveli is one of my favorite restaurants but the whole street comprises of Delicious Desi restaurants.
You must take your time visiting the places and try not to complete the trip in a day or so. Enjoy your
stay at Lahore.
